Holland’s Trademark: Amsterdam School • polychrome proverb board with crowing rooster • ca. 1920–1930 Proverb board with a black rooster crowing the day in for an ochre sun, surrounded by the proverb The early bird has gold in its mouth. Unnoticed; from the Holland Trademark series, a trademark under which porcelain by Gutherz also appeared. Proverb board of earthenware in the style of the Amsterdam School, with a crowing rooster, circa 1920–1930. From the Holland Handelsmerk proverb series. What this board bears is the drawing: a black rooster in flat fields in front of an ochre sun, with the proverb in a jagged stencil font around it. In the tail feathers the brushstroke remains visible. For this object a Buy Now price has also been set, for those who want to acquire it immediately without waiting. In the middle stands the rooster on a green hill, beak open, against a sun disk with a corona of rays. Surrounding it runs in green capitals the proverb The morning hour has gold in its mouth. The pennant bears a wreath of green rosettes with black dots, between ochre pearl borders and green piping. The decoration is laid out with stencils and finished with the brush. The collectors’ catalog LastDodo describes this same board, 22.5 cm, in a series of eight proverbs. Condition: Good. Glaze: needle-prick marks and small inclusions, production-related to this earthenware and no damage. Pennant: some reddish spots in the glaze. Decor: brush strokes visible in the black of the tail, handiwork and no wear. No flaking, hairline cracks or restorations observed. See the pictures. Offered as a decorative object, not intended for use with food. Interior suitability: Fits in an Art Deco, Amsterdam School or country interior, on the wall or on a stand in the kitchen.
