Born in 1984 in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam; lives and works in Hanoi Originally from Thanh Hoa province, located 150 km south of Hanoi, Hoang Anh belongs to this pivotal generation of Vietnamese artists (the “8x” generation) who combine cultural heritage with contemporary abstraction. A graduate of the University of Fine Arts of Vietnam, he has established himself on the Hanoi art scene with a bold approach to material and color. Diploma in Artistic Talent (Class of 13) from the Thanh Hoa College of Culture and Arts Diploma in Painting from the University of Fine Arts of Vietnam (Class of 48) Style and Artistic Approach Hoang Anh’s work is marked by an intense exploration of texture and movement. While he explores varied themes such as landscapes, nature, and the female figure, it is in abstraction that he reveals his full expressive power: • The energy of gesture: A devotee of oil and acrylic painting, he frequently uses a palette knife to apply color in vigorous horizontal strokes. This gesture creates a nearly musical rhythm on the canvas. • Chromatic contrasts: His work plays with the opposition between often neutral backgrounds (urban grays, textured whites) and bursts of primary colors — ardent reds, sunny yellows, and deep blues — that seem to leap from the surface. • Lyric abstraction: His compositions do not aim to reproduce reality, but to capture its emotional essence. His canvases often evoke ephemeral phenomena: the reflection of light on water, the vibration of heat, or the bustle of a metropolis in rapid change. Exhibitions and Recognition An active and recognized artist, Hoang Anh regularly exhibits in prestigious galleries in Hanoi and within national artistic collectives. His works are part of numerous private collections, both in Vietnam and internationally, captivating by their ability to translate an Eastern sensibility into a universal and modern language. "To paint is, for me, a breath, a way to fix the invisible energy that surrounds us." — Hoang Anh
