Hilla Jablonsky (1922-2019) - Abstrakte Komposition

Unique piece from a private collection (100 x 70 cm on cardboard) by Hilla Jablonsky, who is among the central and acknowledged artists of German Informel. For her artistic work she received the Dr.-Theobald-Simon Art Prize (1989) as well as the renowned August Macke Medal of the City of Bonn (1999) and other awards. In this work the artist opts for a reduced composition in which the white bag asserts itself through its clearly contoured form between the black surface and the luminous blue. The scattered silver dots disrupt the rigor of the planes and create a moment of shine and lightness—perhaps an allusion to temptation, expectation, and the anticipation that can be associated with shopping. As part of a bag series developed over many years, Jablonsky thus elevates an everyday object to a recurring artistic motif. Jablonsky’s works have been shown in more than 50 solo and group exhibitions in Germany and internationally, including Vienna, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Seoul, Dublin, and Saint Petersburg. Her works are now in public collections as well as in prominent private collections at home and abroad. For individual works, five-figure euro prices have been achieved. After training with Alexej von Assaulenko, Cameron Hoover, Franz Radziwill, and Albert Paris Gütersloh, she worked as a freelance artist since 1968. She was a co-founder of the Frauenmuseum Bonn, honorary chairwoman of the artist association GEDOK Bonn, and served as a juror in numerous art committees. “Hilla Jablonsky’s pictorial world leaves ample room for the viewer’s perception. Her compositions belong to the tradition of Informel, which celebrated the spontaneous gesture. They often arise from inner emotional states. In her uncompromising insistence on subjectivity, Jablonsky transforms moments of happiness and cheer, restlessness and fear, anger and mourning into a battlefield of color spots, lines, and graphic signs. The remarkable thing: in the end there is a harmony-filled balance.” (Marion Leske, art writer) As a painter, draftsman, and lyricist, Hilla Jablonsky developed over decades a distinctive, powerful visual language. Her large-format, color-intensive compositions combine gestural dynamism with structural density and are characterized by a high sensitivity to rhythm, plane, and materiality. In addition to acrylic and pastel works, she experimented with collages, unconventional materials, and performances.
