The painting is a typical harbor scene by the French late Impressionist painter Henri Maurice Cahours (1889–1974). It is striking for its characteristic, subdued palette and the deft handling of light reflections on the water. Infos zum Künstler & Werk The artist: Henri Maurice Cahours was a prominent French landscape and marine painter. In 1942 he was even named official painter of the French Navy (Peintre Officiel de la Marine). The motifs: Much of his life's work was devoted to subjects from Brittany, especially fishing harbors such as Concarneau or Douarnenez, as well as scenes at low tide (marée basse). Style: Late Impressionist with a clear focus on atmosphere, light moods, and the depiction of boats in the harbor. The signature at the bottom right (“Henri Cahours” or “H. M. Cahours”) perfectly matches his registered signatures.
