This original incunabulum leaf (wiegendruk) comes from the rare, reduced Latin edition of the famous Nuremberg Chronicle, printed on February 1, 1497 by Johann Schönsperger in Augsburg [Liber chronicarum, Schedel]. It concerns the complete leaf Folium CCXXIII (223) with a total paper size of approximately 30 x 19 cm. The text covers a portion of the Sixth Age of the World ("Sexta etas mundi"). The front side (recto) displays a fine hand-colored woodcut of Emperor Frederick II (Fridericus II), shown with a scepter and imperial orb under the title line "Linea imperatorum". The back side (verso) shows three hand-colored medallion portraits of successive popes (Pope Honorius III, Pope Gregory IX, and Pope Celestinus IV), as well as two hand-colored woodcuts of wondrous celestial phenomena, including a fire shower and a large broom-star/comet. The leaf is in good authentic condition with light signs of aging and is offered without a reserve price. To be sent as a registered package
