This original incunable leaf (woodcut print) comes from the rare, abridged Latin edition of the famous Chronicles of Nuremberg, printed on February 1, 1497 by Johann Schönsperger in Augsburg [Liber chronicarum, Schedel]. It concerns the complete leaf Folium CXLV with a total paper size of approximately 30 x 19.5 cm. The text covers a portion of the Sixth Age of the World ("Sexta etas mundi"). The front side shows the history of the early Christian Roman Empire in the 4th century, illustrated with portraits of the emperors Constantius, Constantinus (Constantine the Great), Constans and Constantinus II. The back side is entirely devoted to the early popes from that same period, with woodcuts of the successive popes Silvester, Marcus, Julius and Liberius. The leaf is in good authentic condition with light signs of age and is offered without reserve price. To be sent by registered mail as a package.
