According to his own website, he was born in Leiden in 1951. He graduated in 1974 from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, in graphic arts and painting. Among his mentors are Klaas Gubbels, Auke de Vries and Herman Berserik. Theatrical scenes: men, often wearing hats and long coats, who seem to be performing in a strange play. Humor and absurdity: the figures are engaged with objects or actions whose purpose remains unclear. In doing so, he offers a mild, witty commentary on human behavior. In subdued colors and strong light-dark contrasts: these intensify the quiet, sometimes somewhat awkward atmosphere. He often appears as a character in his paintings. You could describe his paintings as small stories whose endings you can imagine yourself.
