Haliotis Cracherodii — Haliotis Cracherodii (Leach, 1814). The Haliotis Cracherodii, known as Black Abalone, is an iconic species among malacology enthusiasts. Shell is oval in shape and slightly flattened, ideal for withstanding the waves of rocky seabeds. External surface marbled with dark tones, from dark green to black, with traces of white and olive green. Inner mother-of-pearl characterized by extraordinary luster, showing reflections ranging from pearl white to blue, pink, and green. The natural shine makes it appreciated also for artisanal creations and jewelry. Respiratory Pores: A series of 5-7 small pores along the upper margin, used for the outflow of water and waste, typical of the Haliotis genus. The Black Abalone is endemic to the western coasts of North America, particularly along Baja California. It populates rocky areas between the intertidal and subtidal zones, feeding on marine algae in oxygen-rich environments.
