All auctions / Asian Art / Hair ornament (10) - Ijsvogel Ornaments - China

9 exquisite hair ornaments (named Tian-tsui, literally "dotting with kingfishers") meaning. Here, minuscule kingfisher feathers were adhered with extreme precision to a metal substrate to create luxurious hair ornaments and jewelry for the nobility and the wealthy. These particular hairpins likely date from the 19th or early 20th century. The vase is an antique hat-pin holder with a cork on the bottom and holes on the top in which ladies formerly stored their long hat pins. The piece strongly resembles the "blushware" ceramic of Cron Devon (S. Feeding & Co.) The vase is signed.
