Beautiful original color woodcut by Guillaume Le Roy from 1993. Optionally, our framer can mount this artwork completely to your liking; a mock-up is added to the photos. Guillaume Le Roy (1938-2008) was a Dutch graphic artist. His woodcuts and etchings are characterized by a lyrical-abstract style. Le Roy worked mainly in black-and-white tones. In the early seventies he had a short colorful period in which he focused on primary colors. For his work he used old boards often sourced from junkyards. By using weathered planks the texture of the wood shows well on paper. Regarding his black-and-white prints and the dark tone in his work, Le Roy said: "Ultimately I seek the light. But without mystery there is no clarity; without questions there are no solutions. He who seeks daylight cannot do so without the awareness of nocturnal darkness." Guillaume Le Roy wanted his work to make the unspeakable visible and regarded this as the artist's most important task. View our online gallery at ModernDutchArt.com
