All auctions / Porcelain & Pottery / Group of Three Pre-Columbian Peruvian Chimú and Chimú-Inca Blackware

Pre-Columbian, Chimu, Inca, Tiawanaku. Pre-Columbian, north coast of Peru, Chimú and Chimú-Inca, ca. 1100 to 1532 CE. Three burnished blackware pieces from the Chimú kingdom and the period after its conquest by the Inca, when Chimú potters adapted Inca forms using their own reduction-fired blackware technique. Kero: a beaker with flaring walls rising from a narrow, waisted base, with a small lug at the rim. The kero was the Inca drinking vessel for chicha, rendered here in Chimú blackware. Aríbalo-form jar: a miniature jar with a carinated shoulder, flared neck and two pierced lug handles, after the Inca aríbalo. Figure: a standing figure, possibly a vessel, of a Chimú noble wearing a crescent-shaped headdress and large ear spools, with arms held across the body and a loincloth below. These are classic emblems of Chimú rank. Together, the three show the meeting of two great Andean empires. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. Item # 206423
