Grote geelkoperen aker met ijzeren hengsel – een...

Large yellowish-copper Aker with an iron handle – a characterful eye-catcher Warm metal, a generous round shape and a rugged dark handle: this large aker has everything to add extra character to an interior. The gold-tinged exterior shows a lively hammered surface that beautifully catches the light. The rounded bottom and profiled top edge give the aker a pleasing, simple form. The movable iron handle is attached to gracefully shaped side pieces with copper-colored rivets. It is precisely the contrast between the dark iron and the warm yellow-copper that makes this piece particularly attractive. Akers belong to traditional household implements. In the past they were used, among other things, for drawing water, for cooking over the fire, and as storage for firewood. These historical uses provide background to the object type; the original use of this specimen has not been established. Today this aker comes beautifully into its own as a decorative wood tub by the fire or as a generous outer pot with a separate, watertight inner pot. A atmospheric accent for a rural, classic or eclectic interior.
