GROSSA yellow and white calcite

From our selection of collectible minerals we propose a remarkable group of Calcite crystals from the San Giovanni Mine, Bindua, Iglesias, in Sardinia. Furthermore, it is characterized by two distinct generations of scalenohedral crystals: a dense druse of small gray-transparent crystals that covers the matrix, topped by large yellow-white, fluorescent crystals, which create a notable color and size contrast, enhancing its aesthetic value and mineralogical importance. The specimen stands out for the quality of crystallization and for the overall aesthetic balance, with features that emphasize its natural structure and visual impact. Calcite is the most common calcium carbonate (CaCO3) on the Earth's crust and can take hundreds of different crystal habits, including the clearly visible scalenohedral form in this specimen, often called 'dog-tooth' by collectors. Color variations, from gray-transparent to deep yellow, derive from trace element amounts or lattice defects included during crystal growth, while fluorescence is typically linked to the presence of manganese ions acting as activators under ultraviolet light. The San Giovanni Mine, in the heart of the Iglesias district, has been for over a century one of the most important lead-zinc mines in Sardinia, and today is renowned among collectors for the quality and beauty of its calcite specimens. This is an ideal specimen for mineral collections, display, and for those who appreciate the natural beauty of minerals, also in the context of crystal therapy and lithotherapy, according to the properties traditionally associated with the mineral species. All minerals are 100% natural and untreated, with rare exceptions always indicated in the description. The photographs are taken with professional lighting to best enhance colors and details; however, slight color variations may occur depending on the device or ambient light.
