A pencilled note in the book states that the binding was intended for George V but after his death it was given to the illustrator and the correspondence loosely inserted discusses this, asking Dorothy Harrop's opinion. She replies that "This is the first example I have come across as a presentation volume to the crown" although she does not dismiss the idea, concluding "I am sorry not to be able to provide you with any proof positive".
