Grandview, Texas. $20 1902 Date Back. Fr. 642. Farmers & Merchants NB. Charter #7269. PCGS Banknote Very Fine 25. Organized in 1904, the Farmers and Merchants National Bank of Grandview (Charter# 7269) is a particularly tough bank where only just seven non-institutional notes are recorded by the National Bank Note Census. Looking into the notes recorded by the National Bank Note Census, it becomes clear that the surviving population is mostly Series of 1902 Date Backs issued after the passage of the Aldrich-Vreeland legislation passed in 1908. Yet what's even more remarkable about this piece is that its unique for both the type and denomination and features bold signatures attributable to (Assistant) Cashier L. Homer Rigby and President Oscar Lee Wilkirson that really allow this note to stand out among its surviving peers and as the proverbial "keystone" on this institution that ultimately fell to liquidation in 1931. Estimate: $1,250 - $1,750. Provenance: From the Jack Copeland Currency Collection, Part IV. Click here for certification details from PCGS Banknote.
