Glenfarclas 1996/2009 Premium Edition Vintage, Sherry Casks, 46%, 700ml 12 year old, distilled in 1996 and bottled 30.8.2009. It’s a vatting of 12 casks: 680-684, 1488, 7024-7029 Glenfarclas mastered the sherried whiskies business and this one isn’t out of line. Casks: 680 - 684 distilled 15.02.1996 1488 distilled 25.03.1996 7024 - 7029 distilled 20.11.1996 Nose: Fresh and young nose but not too young. It’s sherried to the max and very sugary sweet but not overly so. Strawberry, cinnamon and there’s some bitterness that hides below all that sweet sherry. Palate: Less sweet than on nose and more mature with espresso bitterness and chocolate, blackberries & strawberry, cinnamon and oak wood. Finish: Medium length with oak wood spices, espresso grounds, berries and cinnamon.
