Giuseppe Borghi; Filippo Parisi - La Carità - 1856

Giuseppe Borghi; Filippo Parisi - La Carità - 1856

Rarest and important mid-19th century Neapolitan Risorgimento musical edition, enriched by the signature and inlaid dedication of the composer himself, Maestro Filippo Parisi. It concerns the complete score of the sacred and charitable hymn "La Carità," composed to a text by the renowned poet and essayist Giuseppe Borghi. The work was premiered with a large orchestra on February 17, 1856, inside the Real Museo Mineralogico of the University of Naples, on the occasion of a solemn charity evening intended to aid the sick and the poor of the city. The event took place under the patronage of S.A.I.R. Luigi di Borbone, Conte d'Aquila, brother of King Ferdinand II of the Two Sicilies. The exemplar preserves the extremely rare original silent/editorial cover on yellow paper with the title in ornate large letters, on which stands the autograph dedication in ink to “A D. Pietro Clausetti,” belonging to the famous Neapolitan family of publishers and musicians Clausetti, accompanied by the extended signature with paraph of Filippo Parisi. The work includes the index of pieces with the corresponding period prices expressed in grana and ducats (Reduction for Voice and Piano Duc. 4.00): Edited by the Stabilimento Musicale Partenopeo of Teodoro Cottrau, among the most renowned typographic-musical workshops of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Overall condition excellent. The yellow paper cover shows a very slight and natural aging of the period, with the author’s manuscript clearly legible. Sturdy and well-kept binding; the boards retain the vivid gilded decoration. Interior sheets fresh, clean, with a clear impression of the plate and excellent legibility of the text and musical notes. A complete work of extraordinary collectible and documentary value. In 4° oblong, pp. 11 + 7 + 7 + 10 + 8 + 12 + 9 + 5 + 10.
