Giant Triton Shell, Marine Shell - Charonia Tritonis. This collectible shell is a triton. Perfect for interior decoration, shell collection, birthday or wedding gifts Centerpiece, display-case decorations, Art Deco, Art Nouveau. Creation of artwork. It is in good condition; there is no varnish and it has not been treated, so its patina is slightly bleached due to its age. Regarding its mouth opening, it has been cut to allow it to be more stable when displayed and the tip is broken. Otherwise it is in good condition. It measures 30 cm long by 16.5 cm wide. Scientific name Charonia Tritonis. It comes from the Indian Ocean. It weighs 862 g. Symbol of marine power and an archetypal form among spiral shells, Charonia tritonis is one of the largest species in the malacological world. Commonly called the giant triton, this shell belongs to the family Charoniidae and is distinguished by its imposing size, marked spires, and a wide opening with intense colors. The shell can reach remarkable dimensions and features a solid structure, carved with ribs and concentric bands forming a nearly musical pattern. The interior, often tinted with coppery or orange hues, creates a striking chromatic contrast, making each specimen a true work of natural art. Beyond its aesthetic and collector value, Charonia tritonis plays an essential ecological role: it is one of the few natural predators of the purple acanthaster, contributing to the balance of coral reef ecosystems. Collected for centuries and often associated with rituals or ceremonial instruments in oceanic cultures, this shell remains today an icon of the marine world, prized by malacologists, decorators, and enthusiasts of organic beauty.
