Size: 60 mm (6.0 cm) – Large specimen! While regular pieces are usually well under 50 mm, this specimen impresses with its rare, stately size at the absolute maximum range of the species. Morphology: A classic, elegant, turret-shaped shell. Characteristic is the cream-white to light brown base color with conspicuous, dark brown streaks directly below the sculptured shell suture. Family: Turridae (slit-turret snails). Origin & Habitat Geographic origin: Mikawa-Isshiki, Aichi Prefecture, Honshu, Japan (Pacific Ocean). Habitat: A pure deep-water species. It lives benthically on sandy-muddy soft bottoms of the deeper continental shelf. The specimen was brought to the surface by local deep-sea trawlers from spectacular depths typically 100 to 300 meters.
