Born in La Spezia in 1941. In Milan, where his family moved in 1958, he was a pupil of Tommaso Gnone, from whom he learned etching techniques and began painting. In March 1966 he graduated from the Polytechnic and, alongside his profession, continued to cultivate his interest in art. Since 1969 he has lived in Rome, where he had the opportunity to know Balthus' painting exhibited at Villa Medici; in 1971 he returned to Milan, from which he departed for various trips in Europe. In particular, in Belgium he saw the painting of Delvaux, Magritte, and the great Flemish painting. He began to develop the theme of the Stone Ships, as a memory of Tiber Island, followed by those of the Oracles, of the Nocturnes, and of the metaphysical Ideal Cities. He also touched upon the theme of sacred art, especially with the Nativity scenes inspired by the Thebaid four hundred (quattuorcentenaries). In 1976 he settled in Monza. Numerous are the exhibitions, both solo and group, in which he has participated in various Italian cities. In 1984 he received in Milan a Cartier purchasing prize; in 1992 he was among the laureates of Arte magazine. French critic Pierre Restany invited him to present a series of Tarot cards at the collective 'Art & Tabac', exhibited in 1993 in Rome and in the following years in Vienna and Amsterdam. In the same year he began his long collaboration with the Milanese gallery Galleria Bensi. He collaborates with the Paracelso galleries of Bologna, Il Polittico of Rome, Francocancelliere of Messina, Sartori of Mantua, Gerald Moran of London, Artesse of Yokohama. He has exhibited also in London, Freiburg, Porto, and at the Italian Institutes of Culture in Lyon, Lisbon and Brussels. He has exhibited in Yokohama and Tokyo; in Japan he will again present other solo shows, in 1994 in Yokohama, and again in Tokyo in the years 1999 and 2001. He begins his longtime collaboration with Alchimie verbali, a creative communications laboratory in Salerno. These are the years in which the figure of Pulcinella begins to appear in his painting, understood as the universal human archetype. Towards the end of the 1990s he begins to engage with the myth of Atlantis. In 2002 the Soprintendenza ai Beni Culturali di Salerno sponsors an anthological show in Ravello, where he again collaborates with Luzzati in 2005. In the same years he addresses the themes of Characters who struggle against their own shadow, of Labyrinths and of mysterious Cages. In 2012 he was invited to Germany by the Panorama Museum to present some works at the collective 'Dopo de Chirico' dedicated to contemporary Italian metaphysical painting. In the 1920s follows a period of secluded work in which he addresses the theme of the Invisible Cities. Ever more scarce are his solo exhibitions, reflecting a preference for a reserved operational silence and a rejection of the current sensationalization and business planning of art. He is an artist whose works, usually contained within modest dimensions and often built on the golden ratio, have by critics been likened to the forms of magical realism and learned painting.
