Gerti Bierenbroodspot (1940) - Ik dacht aan Afrika

I Thought of Africa (1991) is a paper screen print by Gerti Bierenbroodspot (Amsterdam, 1940), produced in collaboration with Charlise Bierenbroodspot. At the center is a monumental, strongly abstracted horn-like form, built up from broad painterly passages in dark red, brown, ochre, and black tones. Behind it, in a translucent old-pink printing layer, appears an architectural and figurative fragment with a profiled human figure. The combination of archaeologically evocative motifs, graphic structures, and expressively applied color passages gives the sheet a layered, collage-like construction. At the bottom the work is numbered in pencil 161/300. Bottom-right are the signatures of Gerti and Charlise Bierenbroodspot. Dimensions: 76 × 56 cm.
