All auctions / Coins & Banknotes / Germany, Weimar Republic 5 Reichsmark 1927 Eichbaum (No reserve price)

The Eichbaum: In the 18th and 19th centuries, the oak developed into a symbol of German strength, durability and steadfastness. The withered branches: If you look closely at the foliage, on the right and left sides a few more barren, leafless twig ends stand out. This was a deliberate political symbolism by the artist Prof. Maximilian Dasio. They stand for the German territories that had to be ceded after World War I according to the Treaty of Versailles. The mint: The small “A” at the very bottom under the roots reveals that this coin was minted at the Berlin State Mint. The inscription: The text “EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT” frames the motif – the line that today is known as the opening of the German national anthem. Material: 500 fineness silver (silver content: 50% silver, 50% copper) Fine weight: 12.5 grams of pure silver Diameter: 36.0 mm Thickness: approx. 3.0 mm
