Elaborate silk and metallic-thread medalwork embroidery commemorating German military service in China following the Boxer Rebellion. The composition features a large eagle, Imperial German crown and eagle insignia, military and international flags, laurel branches, and a life preserver. Embroidered inscription reads "Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit in China 1901-1902" ("In remembrance of my service in China 1901-1902"). Worked in multicolored silk and metallic threads on a quilted blue silk ground. Age-related fading, creasing, losses, and wear consistent with age as shown.
