German Empire 1929 - Package Catapulted from the D. Bremen (Norddeutscher Lloyd) to Bottmingen (See Description) - Michel Catapult Mail 1929 – Bremen Return Flight 2.8.29 New York- Bremerhaven Journey 30/7/29. "BREMEN" nach BREMEN – 2.8.1929" Stamp Confirmation "DEUTSCH-AMERIKANISCHE SEEPOST / BREMEN–NEW YORK / 30.7.29" Arrival Stamp Bottmingen (Basel, Switzerland) – 5.VIII.29 Package traveled on the second official catapult flight of the transatlantic liner D. Bremen of Norddeutscher Lloyd, on 2 August 1929, during the New York – Bremerhaven crossing. The catapult service used a Heinkel He 12 seaplane launched about 800 km from the German coast, reducing delivery times by almost 24 hours. - Departure cancellation aboard D. Bremen “DEUTSCH-AMERIKANISCHE SEEPOST – NEW YORK / D. BREMEN” dated 30.7.29 - Flight cachet “KATAPULTFLUG vom D. Bremen nach Bremen 2.8.1929” in red - Transit “Mit Luftpost befördert / Luftpostamt Berlin” - Arrival: stamp on the back Bottmingen (2.VIII.29) and the Norddeutscher Lloyd flag emblem - Mixed postage of the Deutsches Reich (2×25 Pf blue, 15 Pf red, 10 Pf red) with on-board cancellations. Blue “Mit Luftpost” label and on-board number 0594. Second official catapult flight D. Bremen (Heinkel He 12), Haberer Hab 2A, carrying about 650–700 items, of which only 300–350 were destined for Switzerland. The flight was part of the first five experiments of transatlantic catapult mail, precursors to the regular service between Europe and the United States.
