A relic of one of the many fraudulent banks that proliferated in the District of Columbia during the 1850s. The unscrupulous fellows behind the "Mechanics & Traders Bank of Georgetown" contracted with W.L. Ormsby to print their notes which appear rather crude for an engraver of Ormsby's caliber in technical terms. Estimate: $100 - $200. Provenance: From the Caine Collection.
