Georges Humbert - RARE ensemble Georges Humbert – Théorie...

Set of extraordinary bibliophilic rarity, forming a true "author’s dossier" around the works of Georges Humbert (1859-1921), one of the most eminent French mathematicians of his time, renowned for his major contributions to algebraic geometry. This exceptional lot brings together the reference memoir as well as its two ephemeral study documents, preserved together at the time. • 1. Masterpiece: General Theory of Hyperelliptic Surfaces (Published in 1892/1893). Humbert’s foundational text on the subject, which earned him enduring international recognition. • 2. Study documents (inserted inside): Two 4-page flying notes on algebraic geometry. These ephemeral pieces, of extreme fragility, have miraculously survived by being kept at the core of the memoir. They offer a direct glimpse into the researcher’s work and the notes of the author or his immediate contemporaries.
