Worn and rubbed on the boards and spine. Some foxing. Ownership inscription of Philippe Taquet, French paleontologist, glued to each pastedown. First German edition of the first two volumes of “Leçons d'anatomie comparée”, Cuvier's major work, translated and augmented by Gotthelf Fischer von Waldheim. Fischer von Waldheim was Cuvier's pupil in Paris and himself one of the most important zoologists of his time. He undertook this translation almost simultaneously with the French edition with Cuvier's agreement.
