Powerful figurative–abstract painting by German artist Georg Glaser, dated 2001. On a mottled background of turquoise and cobalt blue, the painter builds a composition of simplified figures: a large pink figure on the left, a masked head in the upper right, and a table-like structure in the lower right, with floating blue planes between them. In the paint layer, fine lines, herringbone motifs, and ochre rings are scratched, giving the work a rich, almost graphic texture up close. The imagery aligns with the post-war European tradition of Klee, Miró, and CoBrA. The title refers to the vanity theme, the transience of existence. The square format of 80 × 80 cm and the saturated color palette make this a work that holds its own both from a distance and up close. It hangs particularly well in a modern or light interior. Technical data and dimensions: oil on linen (Öl auf Nessel), 80 × 80 cm canvas size. Signed “Glaser” bottom left. On the back the year 2001 in red paint, a handwritten reference “2 x 6 x 7” and the original gallery label with the mention “Georg Glaser, Vanitée, 2001, Öl auf Nessel, 80x80". Condition: good. No visible craquelure, flaking, cracks or restoration. Supplied in the original narrow wooden frame in terracotta red, also in good condition. Provenance: purchased by the current owner at a gallery in Belgium. The label on the back is German-language and points to a German gallery of origin. Georg Glaser is a registered artist, listed in the Artprice database, including a solo exhibition at Galerie Angelika Blaeser in Düsseldorf. Delivery: collection possible in the Antwerp region, or shipping in sturdy packaging at buyer’s expense. Additional photos of signature, label and back available on request."
