Gaspard Gourgaud – Saint Helena, unpublished diary from 1815 to 1818 – 2 volumes – Ernest Flammarion, 1899 Testimony devoted to Napoleon's stay on Saint Helena, with a preface and notes by the Viscount de Grouchy and Antoine Guillois. Unlike Las Cases' Mémorial of Saint Helena (often judged more staged or embellished), Gourgaud's journal is considered by historians as a frank, raw, unfiltered testimony of daily life and Napoleon's mood in exile, and sometimes contentious. The two volumes are bound together in a uniform binding with red leather spines and marble boards. Decorative set, with beautiful marbled papers. Condition: bindings worn, with wear and small losses, notably at the headcaps and corners. Some handwritten marks are visible. Overall dimensions: 23 × 15 × 7 cm.
