Original gouache on paper, signed at the bottom left. Title: Maternity Beautiful original work by the Belgian painter Gaston Relens (1909-2011), depicting a mother tenderly holding her newborn in her arms. This composition stands out for the intensity of its colors and the softness of its subject. The artist uses a particularly luminous palette, dominated by turquoise, blue, green and pink hues, harmoniously contrasting with the warm tones of the faces and hands. The simplified shapes, defined contours and stylized volumes bear witness to a personal pictorial style, close to figurative expressionism. The mother’s gaze, serene, gives this work a deeply human and timeless dimension. About the artist: Gaston Relens (1909-2011) is a Belgian painter born in Mechelen.
