Original 1974 Italian edition of The Visconti Tarot by Gabriele Mandel, published by Monumenta Longobardica, Bergamo, and printed by Litoberg S.r.l. The lot comprises the complete 78-card deck, the original illustrated volume by Gabriele Mandel, and the distinctive rigid editorial clamshell book-shaped case, with brown cover and titles embossed in gold. The cards reproduce the iconography of the famous Visconti Tarot, linked to the Italian 15th-century tradition, with figures and decorations inspired by the great Renaissance decks. The volume introduces the history of the tarots, illustrates the Arcana, and describes different methods of interpretation and layouts of the cards. Of particular interest is the condition of the deck: part of the cards still retains the transparent protective film, while some have been opened and photographed to document the illustrations. The dating is certain and directly documented in the volume by the inscription “Copyright 1974 Monumenta Longobardica – Bergamo – Printed in Italy”.
