French school (XX) - Le port

Oil on Panel - School French School - "Port Composition" (2004) - Knife technique Description of the work: Wonderful and luminous large-format oil on panel (50 x 70 cm), dated 2004 and bearing a stylized signature at the bottom right ("Juan..."). This work from the early 20th-century French School reinterprets with force and modernity port scenes of character (evoking the unique atmosphere of historic ports such as Honfleur or the Breton coasts). A row of colored facades lines up along the quay, overlooking two sailing ships at anchor whose silhouettes reflect in the water in a geometric way. Characteristics: • Knife technique: The thick application of material (impasto) provides exceptional relief. The thick brushstrokes of paint catch the light dynamically and give the canvas a real physical presence. • Vibrant color palette: The work plays on a striking contrast between the warm tones of the sky and water (ochre, copper, raw umber) and the subtle hues (blues, bluish grays, purples) of the facades. • Expressionist and Structured Style: The geometrization of the houses and the graphic treatment of the reflections place this work in the line of modern expressionism, at the border of a soft cubism. • Clear dating: Dated 2004 next to the signature, providing a temporal reference sought by contemporary art enthusiasts.
