Madonna with Child – Italian School, late 18th century (1780–1790) Oil on canvas mounted on antique wood, depicting the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus. The Virgin is depicted with a veiled head and a broad dark mantle, while the Child, nude and with a halo, holds a small flower. The painting is characterized by a warm and sober palette, by a simple devotional construction of the figures, and by a particularly effective rendering of the faces of the Virgin and the Child. Style: Italian Late Baroque / early Neoclassicism. The work preserves a beautiful antique presence and is housed in an important decorative frame, which particularly enhances the vertical format of the painting. The painting was restored in 1986.
