All auctions / Books, Maps & Manuscripts / Fray Antonio de Guevara - Libro aureo de Marco Aurelio emperador - 1532

Bound in full leather with raised cords and gilt motifs, octavo menor, 7 leaves of preliminaries, 208 pages paginated. Gilded edges, typographic cover, Gothic typeface, profusion of vignettes. It has a small tear in the leather, of little consequence, in very good overall condition. In this work, whose author is Fray Antonio de Guevara, the text fuses moral reflections and witty political discourses under the voice of a false Roman emperor devised by the author. The Venice edition, by Juan Batista Pedrezano, is one of the most beautiful, contemporary with the Seville edition, and is illustrated with exquisite vignettes. An edition impossible to find, a true rarity worthy of being in a museum."
