Biography His father, Frans Vervloet I, was also a painter, professor at the Mechelen Academy; he taught his sons the rudiments of art. In 1822 the young man undertook a journey to Italy, staying mainly in Rome but also visiting Campania. From 1824, he settled in Naples, where he cultivated his activity. In 1832 he went to Venice, remaining fascinated by it; Venice and Naples would remain the cities he loved most all his life. He traveled widely and depicted in his works, besides Venice and Naples, Palermo, Livorno, Constantinople, Gaeta, and various areas of Apulia. In 1861 he settled definitively in Venice where he would die at the age of 77. Work Vervloet was mainly a landscape painter, but he often depicted, in addition to views, sacristies, interiors of churches, monuments. His style, recognizable since his youth, places atmospheric perspective at the center of the painting, rendering it faint through the rendering of a delicate chromatic range, and had a notable influence on the developments of the Posillipo School.
