Magnificent vintage car mascot titled 'Centaure UNIC', crafted after a model by French sculptor François Bazin (1897-1956), for the automobile manufacturer UNIC. This emblematic sculpture from the Art Deco period depicts a leaping centaur, its elongated body forward, brandishing a bow. The particularly dynamic composition perfectly reflects the aesthetics of the 1920s–1930s, combining movement, power, and elegance. François Bazin is notably known for his mascot creations for major automotive brands of the early 20th century. The 'Centaure' model was created for the French manufacturer UNIC, notably for its eight-cylinder cars from the late 1920s. Origin: France. Material: solid bronze. Signature: F. BAZIN, engraved on the base. Height of the sculpture: 13.5 cm. Overall width: 11 cm. Weight of the sculpture: 456 g. Display base: wood. Base height: 6 cm. Base diameter: 8.2 cm. Good overall display condition. The sculpture shows an aged patina, with verdigris-like oxidation marks visible mainly in the recesses and reliefs. These marks have deliberately been retained in order to preserve the current appearance of the bronze. There are signs of wear and small surface irregularities, visible in the photographs. The sculpture is presented on a removable cylindrical wooden base. The photographs are an integral part of the description and allow a precise assessment of the conservation state.
