Franck Innocent (1912–1983) is one of the great representatives of the Rouen School, heir to a pictorial tradition tied to Norman light and painting on site. Born in Sahurs, near Rouen, he later grew up in Sotteville-lès-Rouen, where he spent most of his life. Very early, he trained with the painter Marcel Couchaux, whose studio he frequented from the age of fifteen. This decisive encounter initiated him into plein air practice, which he would adopt permanently. A figurative painter, lithographer and wood engraver, Innocent develops a sensitive and direct style, attentive to atmospheric variations. His Seine landscapes, his views of Rouen, Honfleur or the Norman countryside bear witness to a vivid, almost anxious gaze, always seeking the exact luminous moment. He is often described as a "hunter of light," capable of capturing a fleeting glow and transforming it into painting matter. A faithful artist to his region, he regularly exhibits in Normandy and in Paris, and his work enters several public collections. He dies suddenly in 1983 in Rouen, leaving behind abundant work deeply rooted in the Norman artistic identity. Some images are AI-generated to show what the object might look like in context.
