Modern binding in half-leather and marbled paper in excellent condition. On the spine four raised bands, title and author in gold. Red edges. 2 blank leaves, XXXI, 736, 1 blank leaf Second edition of Torti's major work, which established his fame at European level, printed a few years after the first (1709). In this important study the term "malaria" is coined and spread, and the discovery of the cure for intermittent pernicious fevers through quinine or china-china is disseminated. Francesco Torti (Modena, November 30, 1658 – Modena, February 15, 1741) was an Italian physician and anatomist. Beautiful typographic vignette with a tree on the title page. Numerous historiated initials finely engraved, as well as tailpieces. Large plate out of text, folded several times to p. 666, depicting a kind of genealogical tree of fevers. Ex libris affixed to the flyleaf. Sporadic stains, mostly marginal. Copy in excellent conservation state, complete and usable.
