Francesco Carrabba – Praxis Syndicatus Officialium – Naples, 1755 Interesting Neapolitan edition from the eighteenth century of an important treatise on law and administrative procedure in the Kingdom of Naples, dedicated to the oversight of officials, i.e., to the procedures of control and ascertainment of the responsibilities of public servants and magistrates in the exercise of their duties. The work of Francesco Carrabba, enriched by the additions, annotations and legal formulas of the Neapolitan doctor Leonardo Ricci, constitutes a significant testimony of the legal culture of southern Italy in the modern age. Naples, at the expense of Cristoforo Migliaccio, 1755. Volume in quarto format, preserved in an antique full parchment binding, with a handwritten title on the spine. The text includes the three parts of the work, with the treatment mainly in Latin and a practical section in Italian, entitled Practical of the Syndicate of Officials. There are indices, chapter summaries, ornate initials and woodcut decorations. The content addresses numerous aspects of the administration of justice, including the procedures of oversight, appeals, the conduct of officials, the responsibility of judges, testimonies and procedural formulas. Conditions: an example in relatively fair condition for its age. Parchment binding with widespread stains, abrasions, darkening and signs of use. The handwritten title on the spine remains legible. Inside there are yellowing, halos and damp stains, especially at the upper margins of several pages, along with some ancient handwritten annotations. The text is generally well legible. The bibliographic collation of the edition is [30], 179 [i.e. 178], 129 pages. A work of particular interest to collectors of old books, scholars of the history of law, institutions and administration of justice in the Kingdom of Naples.
