Fr. 217. 1886 $1 Silver Certificate. PMG Choice About Uncirculated 58 EPQ. Representative of the second signature combination used for this popular denomination and series imprint. This example though is certainly not your average specimen in conditional terms. Crisp margins and sharp corners serve to enclose a truly eye appealing spectacle exemplified by the engraved portion of the design. The spiked Treasury seal typical of the period seen above the engraved signature of Treasurer James W. Hyatt offers an impeccable contrast against the engraved balance anchored by the portrait of Martha Washington seen at left and the various panels and counters seen along the margins. Yet this finding can be had even before one even considers the back design lending this note a quality sure to appeal to the "everyman collector" who seeks quality notes without sacrificing quality and eye appeal merely for the sake of thrift. Estimate: $1,500 - $2,500. Click here for certification details from PMG.
