Why does it look real? Because it is real stone! Ossatorum Aeterna is a company specializing in the creation of ultra-realistic replicas of dinosaur skeletons and other extinct or endangered animals. Using an innovative mineral-coating technique, our creations achieve an authentic, museum-quality appearance. This unique approach was born from a simple observation: painted replicas often lack realism, while traditional molds, although more faithful, provide limited detail and restrict the creation of fine anatomical features. Our hybrid technique combines the best of both worlds, accurately capturing anatomical complexity while giving a lifelike mineral texture of natural fossils. The result is arguably among the most realistic replicas currently available for discerning collectors and enthusiasts. Item for Sale: Replica Skull of Australopithecus afarensis (“Lucy”) Overall Dimensions (with base): • Length: 17 cm • Height: 24 cm • Depth: 13 cm Discover a museum-quality, ultra-realistic life-size (1:1) replica of the Australopithecus afarensis skull—one of the most iconic early hominin fossils ever discovered—crafted for collectors who value scientific authenticity, historical significance, and premium tactile detail. About Australopithecus afarensis (“Lucy”) Lucy, discovered in 1974 in Ethiopia, is one of the most celebrated fossils in human evolution. Dated to approximately 3.2 million years ago, she belonged to a species that marks a crucial stage between earlier ape-like ancestors and the emergence of the human lineage. Australopithecus afarensis combined an upright, bipedal posture with a relatively small brain—typically around 400 to 500 cm³—retaining both primitive and derived anatomical traits. Her skull reveals key features: a low forehead, pronounced brow ridges, forward-projecting jaws, and dental characteristics indicating a varied, largely plant-based diet. Lucy’s discovery transformed our understanding of how early hominins walked, lived, and evolved, making her one of the most important paleoanthropological finds in history. Key Features (Superior Craftsmanship) Weight and Stability With the base included, the skull weighs approximately 315 g. Its solid construction ensures a stable and secure display. Mineralized Hyper-Realistic Finish This piece has undergone a multi-step artisanal process, including a hand-applied mineral coating that replicates aged bone, early stages of fossilization, and the subtle earthy textures characteristic of paleoanthropological specimens. For a museum-quality presentation, we recommend directional lighting: soft highlights on the brow ridges, zygomatic arches, and cranial sutures reveal tonal variations within the mineral layers and enhance the organic realism of the piece. Exceptional Detail Cranial sutures, dental morphology, surface textures and micro-anatomical structures are reproduced with high fidelity, capturing both the distinct primitive features and subtle complexities of the original specimen. Museum-Grade Mounting The skull is mounted on a professional transparent rod fixed to a solid round wooden base. This is a museum-style sculpture designed to stand out in any natural history, paleoanthropology, or human-evolution collection. Material Parts that have been found and are represented as fossilized elements: Polymer coated with Ossatorum Aeterna’s hand-applied mineral coating, crafted from carefully selected rocks chosen for their natural coloration and finely ground to achieve an authentically fossilized texture. Parts that have not been preserved and were artistically reconstructed: Polymer finished with a black paint to clearly distinguish the reconstructed areas from the fossilized ones. Scientific Accuracy Based on paleoanthropological data and reproduced at a 1:1 scale for maximum anatomical fidelity.
