All auctions / Miscellaneous / Footstool - Frisian "Sijtje Minnes de Jong" - Wood - Church pew / church stove

An authentic antique wooden church bench/foot-stove from Frisian or North Dutch origin. This kind of personal bench was once carried to church by women to keep their feet warm on the cold stone floor. The top surface of the seat is richly and finely decorated with a geometric diamond pattern created with nailed-on braids or reed-stems. On the side, in classical painted letters, is the name of the owner: "Sijtje Minnes de Jong", so one in the church knew exactly whose stove it was. The underside features open-work wood carving between the legs, with the engraved/cut initials "M N". On the sides there is an authentic wooden mortise-and-tenon connection with a peg. A remarkable piece of Dutch folk art and religious history with a clear provenance. Condition: Good, used and original condition appropriate for its age and use in church. The wood shows light wear, scratches, old beetle holes (no longer active) and a beautiful old patina. On one side the small securing pin in the wooden tongue is missing. The braiding on the top is still very nicely intact. Dimensions: Height: 14 cm Width: 26 cm Depth: 16 cm Weight: 532 g. The lot is packed with extreme care and shipped by registered/insured service with Track & Trace. Pickup by arrangement is also possible.
