Fontana Arte - Roberto Menghi - Hanging lamp - Lamp - Metal - 1970s vintage

The FontanaArte Lampàra belongs to the rare designs in which functionality and form perfectly coincide. Designed by Roberto Menghi at the end of the 1960s and produced during the 1970s, this pendant lamp reflects the period's fascination with industrial design, without losing its elegance. The design is characterized by a strong, almost architectural form. The large metal shade with its characteristic cylindrical upper part is fully aimed at optimal light distribution, while the clean lines and perfectly balanced proportions ensure a striking sculptural silhouette. The white interior of the reflector enhances the light and creates a pleasant, even illumination over a table or workspace. What makes the Lampàra special is the way Menghi managed to combine industrial influences with the refinement of Italian design. While much industrial lighting appears purely utilitarian, this design possesses a subtle elegance that is typical of the best Italian creations from that period. As a result, the lamp feels equally at home in a modern interior as in a setting where vintage design takes center stage. Roberto Menghi is regarded as one of the important Italian designers of the post-war generation and was awarded the prestigious Compasso d'Oro twice. His designs are characterized by a timeless simplicity in which form always arises from function. The Lampàra is an excellent example of this.
