All auctions / Arts & Graphics / Floral composition with pheasant, French School, 19th century

Descriptio Oil on relined canvas. Dimensions 125 x 95 cm. A large floral composition arranged in a classically inspired vase resting on a sculpted marble base with cherubs, where an exuberant display of flowers of various species intertwines with fruits and foliage, enlivened by the presence of a pheasant in full motion, which introduces dynamism and spatial depth. The atmospheric background and the careful chromatic gradation reinforce the sense of volume and visual richness. The brushwork is loose yet controlled, with particular attention to the tactile qualities of petals, leaves, and stone surfaces, while the light models the forms with an enveloping chiaroscuro. The work belongs to the 19th-century French tradition of revisiting the 17th-century Baroque still life, reinterpreting its ornamental splendor and naturalistic symbolism from a historicist and academic perspective. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipment: no import duties apply within the EU. Export permit from the country of origin may be required.
