Fine woodcarver’s knife - Pisau - Babrongko village...

Woodcarver’s knife from the Sentani area, West Papua, decorated with a finely carved ancestor figure. This type of practical tool was traditionally used by local woodcarvers for shaping and finishing a wide variety of wooden objects, including bowls, household utensils, architectural carvings and decorative elements for houses and important community buildings. The carved ancestor figure on the handle connects the everyday working tool with the strong ancestral traditions of Sentani art and culture. An attractive and authentic example of a traditional craftsman’s personal tool, combining practical function with characteristic Sentani figurative carving.
