All auctions / Sculptures / Figurine - Vintage Creatieve Sōsaku Kokeshi Pop...
Beautiful and authentic Japanese Sōsaku (creative) Kokeshi doll titled 'Yamazato' (Berghuishouden / Bergbeschaving), handmade and painted by the renowned, award-winning master craftsman Yuji Kawase. This impressive kokeshi doll stands 23 cm tall and is a splendid example of Shōwa craftsmanship. This particular model stands out for the perfect balance between the large, minimalist wooden head with a serene, calm facial expression and the vibrant, cylindrical body. The body is richly adorned all around with deep, hand-painted floral motifs in warm autumn tones (red, orange and dark green), which contrast beautifully with the natural wood grain. Unique historical inscriptions on the underside: What makes this doll even more special for collectors is the detailed, handwritten red inscription on the bottom. It tells exactly the unique story and provenance of the object: • S55.5.13: This refers to the traditional Japanese dating system: the 55th year of the Shōwa era, which precisely corresponds to May 13, 1980. • 家内一同 (Kanai Ichidō): An emotional inscription that literally means "From the whole family". The doll was given at the time by a Japanese family as a jointly meaningful gift. • Artist’s mark: In the center is the original, authentic burnt-in signature (mei) of the maker, Yuji Kawase. The doll is in vintage condition with a beautiful, natural patina that matches its age of over 45 years. The floral colors are still very vivid and the inscriptions on the underside are perfectly legible. See the detailed photos for an accurate personal impression of its condition. When shipping within the European Union there are no customs duties! The item will be carefully packaged and shipped. Please note that the packaging has been done by a private individual and not by a professional service, so perfect packaging quality cannot be guaranteed. Thank you for your understanding.
