Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller (Austrian, 1793-1865) Portrait of a young

signed and dated 'Waldmüller 1832' u.r., oil on panel, 32 x 26cm; framed 41 x 35cm, Condition Report, Condition Report, The work has been executed on two panels in vertical alignment. The join is visible in the centre of the painting there is some overpainting apparent that fluoresces under UV light. On close inspection fine craquelure is visible. In our opinion the face is a little soft, and examined under UV light some light fluorescing to the sitters's cheeks, chin and neck shows where it appears the face has been retouched. Viewed under UV light some fine dashes of infilling fluoresce to the background, however much of the surface is obscured by a layer of varnish which makes futher reading difficult. There is a little rubbing to the edges of the painting. In our opinion the painting presents well overall when viewed on the wall. Please see additional condition images.
