FAVRE-LEUBA SEA KING TWIN POWER – CAL. FL 251 – DOUBLE BARREL MANUFACTURE MOVEMENT – 1960s DESCRIPTION An elegant and historically interesting Favre-Leuba Sea King Twin Power from the 1960s, featuring the renowned in-house calibre FL 251, an innovative Swiss mechanical movement equipped with two mainspring barrels. Founded in 1737, Favre-Leuba is one of Switzerland’s oldest watchmaking houses, celebrated for its technical innovations and distinctive mechanical timepieces. Introduced in the early 1960s, the Twin Power movement represented an important achievement in Swiss watchmaking. Unlike conventional movements equipped with a single mainspring barrel, the FL 251 incorporates two barrels working in parallel, designed to deliver more consistent torque and improve timekeeping stability. The movement also features an exceptionally slim construction for its period and an approximately 48-hour nominal power reserve. This particular example combines a beautifully preserved champagne sunburst dial, applied gold-tone hour markers, elegant dauphine-style hands and a classic gold-plated case with refined angular lugs. The distinctive "Sea King Twin Power" inscription on the dial highlights the watch's special mechanical architecture, making it particularly appealing to collectors of vintage Swiss manufacture movements. COLLECTOR'S APPEAL The Favre-Leuba Sea King Twin Power represents an interesting chapter in Swiss mechanical watchmaking. Combined with its clean champagne dial, elegant gold-plated case and classic mid-century proportions, this is a particularly attractive example for collectors seeking a vintage Swiss timepiece with genuine mechanical significance.
