Exquisite Deep Blue and White Sodalite - Hand-Carved...

Handcrafted Sodalite statue from Brazil — This lot features an exceptional sculpture depicting an elephant, masterfully carved from a block of Sodalite. Sodalite is a fascinating mineral, known for its intense blue tones, often interwoven with veining and white calcite inclusions, creating a vivid color contrast and a dynamic visual effect. The various shades of blue, from cobalt to darker tones, blend harmoniously with white and grayish areas, making each specimen a unique piece of natural art. The elephant is carved with great attention to detail, from the texture of the ears and trunk, elegantly raised as in a gesture of greeting or triumph, to the sturdiness of the legs and the overall shape of the body. The surface polishing enhances the brightness and depth of Sodalite's colors, highlighting its characteristic veining and crystalline structure. Sodalite is a mineral that forms in alkaline igneous and metasomatic rocks. It owes its name to its high sodium content. Although it is often confused with Lapis lazuli, it is distinguished by the absence of pyrite and its specific chemical composition. Its beauty and relative rarity, especially in blocks large enough for such detailed sculptures, make it highly valued in the world of gemology and decorative arts. This sculpture is not only an example of craftsmanship that can transform a rough mineral into a work of art, but also a magnificent collectible and an elegant decorative piece. Its presence is striking and can enrich any space, bringing a touch of exoticism and natural beauty. The small irregularities or visible color variations are intrinsic to the nature of Sodalite and attest to the authenticity and natural origin of the material.
