This lot features a magnificent natural tooth of the Great White Shark (*Carcharodon carcharias*), a modern, non-fossil specimen from the waters of the Caribbean Sea. The specimen has been precisely identified anatomically as a right upper A2 tooth, i.e., the second anterior tooth on the right side of the jaw. With a length of 44 mm along the major axis, this piece stands out for its exceptionally well-preserved state, making it a rare-quality specimen for collectors and natural history enthusiasts. Direct observation of the tooth reveals a broad, robust triangular crown, coated with an ivory-bright white enamel that is almost perfect. The surface is smooth and reflects light, highlighting the structural integrity of the piece. Both cutting edges are armed with a series of finely defined and incredibly sharp serrations, perfectly preserved from the base to the pointed apex. The regularity and sharpness of these denticulations attest to the formidable predatory efficiency of this oceanic superpredator. The root, more opaque in color and with a porous texture, shows a well-developed bilobed shape, in clear color and material contrast with the glossy crown. From a scientific standpoint, the A2 position is of great interest. Although it is an anterior tooth designed to grasp and penetrate prey, it already shows a slight distal inclination, a morphological adaptation that accommodates the curvature of the jaw arch. This subtle asymmetry is not a defect, but a functional feature that distinguishes this tooth from the central ones (A1), which are more symmetric, and from the lateral ones, which are markedly more inclined. It is a detail that allows for the precise placement of the tooth within the shark’s complex oral apparatus. The authenticity and biological origin of the specimen are confirmed by details visible upon closer examination. The serrations, while regular, show a natural and almost imperceptible dimensional variation, gradually decreasing toward the tip. On the root one can notice tiny vascular foramina, the channels through which blood vessels nourished the tooth during its growth in the gum tissue. These particulars, far from defects, are the undeniable signature of its nature and enrich the documentary value of the specimen. It is important to remember that sharks possess polyphyodont dentition, meaning their teeth are continually replaced throughout life. Behind every functional tooth, new rows of teeth are ready to replace those lost or worn. This specimen thus represents a single moment in the perpetual life cycle of one of the planet’s most fascinating animals. Its natural, non-fossil condition provides a direct and tangible link to the biology of an iconic species that still populates our seas today. For its notable size, impeccable preservation, and precise anatomical identification, this Great White Shark tooth transcends mere curiosity to become a high-level collectible piece. It is an ideal addition to a contemporary Wunderkammer, a natural history study, or as a large-impact organic sculpture in refined interior design, capable of evoking the power and perfection of the natural world.
